IndiGo, the leading airline of India, has appointed Insight Aviation to select and train ab-initio pilots for their Cadet Pilot Programme to fulfil their growing demand for pilots to cater for their massive fleet growth. Insight Aviation, in conjunction with its international and local partners, offers a comprehensive DGCA compliant pilot training program that is designed to offer maximum efficiency at the lowest cost.

Insight Aviation has teamed up with South Africa’s premier Flight Training Organization, 43 Air School, to deliver a bespoke and robust flight training program focusing on operational capability, effective and adaptable procedures, applied operational knowledge, and confident command skills to add to their growing pool of professional and capable pilots.

Eligibility

AGE

  • Minimum Age: 18 Years on Last Date of Application.
  • Maximum Age: 32 Years on Last Date of Application.
 

EDUCATION

  • 10+2 with minimum score of 51% / Grade Point 6 / Grade C1 (CBSE)Individually in each subject i.e., Physics / Mathematics / English
  • Candidates with qualifications awarded by the accredited/approved/recognized foreign boards and Universities are to obtain an academic equivalency certificate from AlU ( Association of Indian Universities) for the aforesaid subjects, validating a minimum score of 51% for each subiect.
  • Notes: NIOS mark sheet and certificate are accepted with minimum score of 51% in Mathematics, Physics and English individually. (The candidate may apply on the basis of NIOS provisional marksheet however, they must submit the final/original NIOS marksheet before signing IndiGo Cadet Pilot Agreement)
 

NATIONALITY

  • The candidate must be an Indian National or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holder (security clearance from the regulatory authority will be obtained by the OCI holder prior to start of CPL Training to avoid license issue delays).
  • Have a valid passport and unrestricted right to live and work in India, with the ability to travel unrestricted worldwide.
 

LANGUAGE

  • You must be fluent in English.(Both written and verbal)
 

MEDICAL

  • Valid DGCA Class 1 medical certificate (no limitations).
    Candidates can apply using Class 2 Medicals; however, they must have Indian DGCA Class 1 Medical certificate at the time of signing IndiGo Cadet Pilot Agreement ( to avoid delays in start of training or monetary loss in case of rejection by the medical board at a later stage).
  • Valid SACAA Class 1 medical certificate (no limitations).

  • Body piercings /tattoos should not be visible.

Assessment & Selection

Applicants will be required to undergo a comprehensive assessment process involving a series of screening tests, medical and interviews

(INSIGHT AVIATION doesn’t charge any fees for the aforementioned tests).

Program Outline

INSIGHT AVIATION INDIGO CADET PILOT PROGRAM

Ground School
GROUND SCHOOL - INDIA (4 MONTHS)

Cadets will establish their foundation of aviation knowledge through 470 hours of structured instruction on aviation subjects delivered by experienced subject specialist instructors. The students will appear for their DGCA examination at the end of the course. During the course, all academic and administrative processes will be managed alongside to facilitate the flight training.the module included are:

  • Air Regulation

Note: Indian SPL and FRTOL(R) will be issued on successful completion of above mentioned DGCA exams.

Cadets will commence their CPL Training at 43 Air School to develop the skills required to become an airline pilot. This training will comprise 160 Hours of Ground School.The following subjects are included.

The validity of CPL exams is 18 months from the date of enrollment in SACAA except for General Radio & IROP. The validity of Aeronautical Radio licence is same as the validity of SACAA CPL.

PHASE -2 (FLYING TRAINING)

License Conversion India
LICENSE CONVERSION – INDIA (4 MONTHS)

17 Hours of Flight training including checks on CESSNA 172 SE aircraft for issuance of DGCA CPL SE IR.

Type Rating
TYPE RATING – TBD (2 MONTHS)

The type rating training for the A320 will be carried out according to the DGCA approved Airbus training syllabus at approved training centre. The culmination of the training will be the license skill test at the successful completion of which, the cadets will be ready to be Inducted into IndiGo as JFO.

Flight Training Organization

Overview

43 Air School is a dedicated Flight Training Organization (FTO) located in Port Alfred, voted the No. 1 Town in South Africa in 2018. The internationally recognized FTO is is located onsite at the Port Alfred Airport and the campus is spread over an area of 35 acres within the premises where cadets are immersed in an environment which is well suited to flying training with all the necessary equipment and facilities. Apart from 43 Air SchoolPort Alfred houses an airport with three runways and some casual general flying activities but in essence it is dedicated to flight training.

Flight Training

Port Alfred has a population of approximately 30,000 people and is a foremost destination for vacation and retirement in the country.  The town has many banks, supermarkets, stationery and hardware stores, clothing shops and restaurants.  Medical services are adequate with a private hospital and a number of general practitioners and dentists resident in the town.

There are Blue flag beaches and water sports such as surfing and kite surfing. Excellent game reserves and farms are in close proximity.

CAMPUS AND ACCOMMODATION

Students are accommodated in a spacious and secure campus. Each student has a single room with a block of four rooms sharing a shower and toilet.  Each block has a central lounge and kitchenette. Rooms have study areas with overhead reading lamps. High speed Wi-Fi service is standard.  Limited single en-suite accommodation is available on a first-come-first served basis for an additional charge. House-keeping service includes room cleaning and laundry service.

The dining hall, “Refuel”, provides three meals per day and caters for various cultural requirements, inclusive of an on-base kitchen. The cadets are provided breakfast, lunch and dinner with four meal choices per sitting including Meal of the Day, Vegetarian, Halal and Healthy option for the duration of stay in S Africa. The Residential Campus provides a secure and productive learning environment. Sport facilities include tennis court, basketball court, volleyball court, soccer field, and mini golf course. On-site recreational amenities include bar, cafeteria, swimming pool, gymnasium, games room, television lounges with satellite TV/DVD and an indoor recreation centre with a well-stocked pilot shop.

As long as you perform to the expected standards during the training course and obtain the required licenses and certifications that we are training you for, IndiGo will recruit you as a Junior First Officer at the end of training. The letter of intent (LOI) issued by IndiGo after the selection process is their commitment to this project.

Your passport will be required before proceeding overseas for your flight training which will be approximately 5 months after the initial registration.

If you do not meet this requirement, you can pursue these subjects (Physics, Math and English) via the National Institute of Open Schooling to achieve the desired grade.

Step 2:Class 2 medical at any medical practitioner listed out in the DGCA website at this link https://dgca.gov.in/digigov-portal/?page=jsp/dgca/InventoryList/personal/medical/class2/class2.pdf It will be critical to verify dispatch of the Class 2 medical report to the DGCA to ensure the medical assessment is obtained at the earliest. For this you must liaison directly with the doctor conducting your class 2 medical. Retain the certificate and email/upload a copy to us. The approximate cost of a class 2 medical will be approximately Rs. 5000 to 6000.

Step 3: Detailed competencies assessment at our training center in New Delhi.

Step 5:Group task assessment will be conducted by IndiGo where inter-personal and interactive skills along with consensus building will be noted amongst the candidates.

Step 6: Final interview with IndiGo on successful completion of which a letter of Intent (LOI) will be issued along with the requirement to sign two agreements, one between you and IndiGo and one between you and Insight Aviation.

You can prepare yourself in Physics, Math and English. For the aptitude assessment, it is best not to prepare as any preparation may result in inaccurate results which would influence the outcome of your selection and training.

The duration for training from Insight Aviation will be 21 months for an average student. This does not include the time duration taken for license issue and endorsement by the regulatory bodies which is slightly unpredictable and by our experience is in the region of 1-2 months.

The training schedule is listed below in detail

Step 1: Ground school at our training center at New Delhi. This will be an intense 12 Weeks ground school at the end of which you will appear for your DGCA subject examinations.

Step 2: Flight training at our overseas flight training facility with 43Air School. This training will happen in South Africa and is expected to last 46 Weeks. It will culminate with the issue of a South Africa Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) CPL SE-IR license and multi-engine training .

Step3: Conversion of South Africa Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) CPL to an Indian CPL issued by DGCA in India. This involves flight checks, skill test conducted at DGCA training facility (single engine airplane).

Step 4: Issue of Indian License. Our documentation division will assist in ensuring all documents are in compliance for the issue of your Indian CPL. This process is likely to take one month.

Step 5: Type rating of the Airbus A320 at selected location. This will involve both theory and practical training and will take a period of 8 Weeks.

Step 6: Induction into IndiGo as Junior First Officer.

The safety of our students is our prime consideration. Port Alfred  is a quaint little beach town in the southern cape of South Africa which is buzzing with tourists during vacation. The temperature around the year is between 18-26 degrees Celsius. It is home to some of the best beaches and surf tide on the planet. All the cadet pilots will be residing and studying on the campus which is totally self-contained and is under round the clock video surveillance and security. Both 43 Air School and Port Alfred offer a safe and secure environment to live and learn.

Yes, some portion of finance may be available as a personal loan, but you may need to provide a collateral to the bank for the remaining amount.

You will be required to sign the following agreements:

• An agreement with IndiGo HR, whereby you agree to join IndiGo after completion of the program and work for a minimum period of 5 years with their sureties’ and undated cheques.
• An agreement with Insight Aviation for training services provided in India and overseas.
• On completion of training you will be required to sign a “Pilot Employment Agreement” with IndiGo

Yes. This is a part of the agreement with IndiGo, whereby you will need to submit an undated cheque of 30 lacs at the signing of your LOI, which could be cashed by IndiGo as on violations of terms of your agreement with them.

Yes. Your training can be terminated anytime due to non-performance or disciplinary issues. Normally this does not occur unless there is a serious performance or disciplinary issue. Every attempt will be made including remedial or extra training to improve performance. In case of disciplinary matters there will be zero tolerance to any serious violation of the code of conduct and that will lead to an immediate termination.

There is a legal limit to the number of hours a pilot can fly in a month. This is closely monitored by the regulatory authorities. You can expect to be working 5-6 days a week and fly a flying average of 70 hours every month.

IndiGo is a fast growing airline and the minimum requirements for command upgrade currently get fulfilled in three years of line flying. As long as you are in possession of an ATPL license, you should become eligible in that time frame.
